CHORUS BREVIARII ~ SAN DIEGO is a
Gregorian chant study and liturgical prayer
group, inspired by the spirituality of
St.Philip Neri, the great 16th century Italian
saint who created the Oratory.
Members of
the group learn how to sing the traditional Divine Office
in Gregorian chant and how to serve in solemn liturgies
of the Roman Catholic Church, under the guidance of a
trained professional Catholic musician and experienced
liturgist. Through sung prayer, liturgical service, good
works, and the joy of friendship, members aim to grow in
charity and to foster Catholic identity.
Since its beginnings in 2001, Chorus Breviarii has
organized hundreds of public celebrations of Vespers and
other hours of the traditional Divine Office, sung Masses
in Gregorian chant both in the new and in the old rite, and
spiritual concerts.
The liturgical activity of the group is complemented and
enriched by demonstrations of Catholic identity, works of
mercy, and recreation.
Members meet weekly for rehearsal, usually followed by
sung Compline. All are welcome to rehearsal, but
Catholic men are especially encouraged, since only they
may assume a liturgical role in the sanctuary, according
to the rubrics of the traditional Divine Office. Members
not serving in the sanctuary still sing from the choir loft.
